Made for Your Application

Foam gaskets are cut from open-cell or closed-cell materials selected around ingress protection, compression force, temperature and chemical exposure. Their thickness and profile create a repeatable compressed barrier around an enclosure without machining rigid parts.

Material advantage

Foam conforms to uneven interfaces at relatively low clamp force, which makes it practical for thin panels and complex enclosures.

Key features

  • Low-force compression
  • open- or closed-cell choices
  • custom apertures
  • PSA mounting
  • continuous-frame layouts.

Manufacturing & Finish Options

Production process

Flatbed die cutting, rotary die cutting, waterjet cutting and adhesive lamination

Manufacturing notes

Compression target, seam layout and cell type should be defined before selecting foam thickness.

Adhesive options

Acrylic PSA, rubber PSA, high-temperature acrylic and low-surface-energy adhesive options.

Surface options

Skin-on, skived, laminated film, fabric-facing or graphite-coated options.

Where It Fits

Best for

  • Door and panel seals, HVAC housings, lighting fixtures, electronics enclosures, duct interfaces and anti-rattle joints.

Common industries

  • HVAC, lighting, electronics, appliances, telecom, transportation and industrial enclosures.

Consider another option when

Very high-pressure fluid seals, sharp-edged compression paths, or media where the selected foam lacks chemical compatibility.

Design & Engineering Notes

Design guidelines

Aim for a controlled compression range rather than bottoming out the foam; maintain adequate land width around apertures.

Engineering notes

Closed-cell grades are generally favoured for moisture barriers; open-cell grades are useful for air management and lower-force damping.

Selection Guide

Choose EPDM for outdoor weathering, neoprene for balanced oil and weather exposure, and cross-linked PE for crisp closed-cell profiles.

Material comparison

Foam gaskets seal lower-force joints better than solid rubber; solid rubber offers higher durability where extrusion or abrasion is severe.

Standards & requirements

Customer drawing, compression-deflection criteria and application-specific ingress test plan where required.

Drawing Requirements

PDF, DXF, DWG, STEP, AI, CAD screenshots and dimensioned sketches can be reviewed. Don’t have a CAD drawing? A dimensioned PDF, sketch or clear image may be sufficient for an initial review.

Frequently Asked Questions

Should I choose open-cell or closed-cell foam?

Closed-cell foam is generally selected for water and dust barriers; open-cell foam is better where air flow or very soft compression is desired.

How much should a foam gasket compress?

The workable range depends on the grade, but a controlled partial compression is preferable to crushing the foam flat.

Can a foam gasket include bolt holes and cut-outs?

Yes. Die cutting can add holes, windows, mitres and registration features in the same operation.

Is adhesive required on every foam gasket?

No. Adhesive is used for installation retention; a clamped gasket can often seal without it.
